My shattered dream

38-year-old doctor Samir El Nahhal from Gaza arrived in Malta last Thursday after his sister, Sanaa, went to visit him and the rest of their family. He speaks to Karl Schembri about the 22-day Israeli siege, and about his concerns for his children’s future.
As the Israelis were bombarding Gaza, Samir El Nahhal convinced his three children Lina, Nader and Dima – the oldest aged five – that the bangs outside that were making them cry were only fireworks.

More aid from Malta

Sanaa El Nahhal reports that more donations have poured in from the Maltese to be sent to Gaza:
"As soon as I arrived from Gaza, the Maltese started calling and bringing more donations. Although, I was very tired from the trip, I saw how enthusiastic the Maltese were to help. So together with ny brother, who arrived to Malta Thusday afternoon, we packed the donations that we recieved at my centre and my house in boxes and went with them Saturday to the Civil Department at Marsa with the help of some Libyan youth. The goods left today (Sunday) morning to help the people of Gaza. The Maltese are still calling and wanting to help.
"I would also like to thank some schools that helped with the donations including St. Monica School and Mtarfa Primary School. I also thank San Gwann Local Council for their help and other people like Mohammed Al Burki from Libya, Mahmud Al Moghrabi from Palestine, Salama Jarbou'e from Syria and all my Maltese friends."

New air raids in Rafah

Rasha Nahhal reports from Gaza:
Israeli forces launched air raids at dawn today on the border area south of the city of Rafah in southern Gaza Strip. Nobody was injured but the raids left huge destruction in the area.
The raids were launched after residents received telephone calls from the Israeli army warning them to evict the are. About a quarter of the population of Rafah city have reportedly left their homes.
In another attack in El-Geneina, in the centre of Rafah, one citizen was killed and four others were wounded after an F-16 fighter plane targeted a car.
A police station was also hit in El Mughraqa, central Gaza Strip, but no one was injured.
